We went to celebrate our anniversary, had weekend “Winter In the Woods” Special that included the holiday chef tasting one night. We were not sure what to expect, no TV and WiFi only in the great room, and the only on site restaurant didn’t serve lunch. Well, it was absolutely amazing! We drove up (great directions on their website) and there was freshly fallen snow with beautiful holiday lights on the trees. We checked in and were escorted to our room by an employee who gave us a brief tour and review of the history of the place. The room was cozy with a gas fireplace next to the jacuzzi tub and although our balcony looked out onto rock wall, it was still quite pretty with the snow. We were there in time for the welcome wine hour – the owner of the Inn is quite gracious and we enjoyed speaking with the sommelier who was very happy to share information about the wines without being snobby at all. We had dinner at the restaurant and enjoyed the delicious food / wine and had amazing service from Cheyenne. The next day we did venture out briefly to see a local town, but were just as happy hanging out with good books and company. So unusual these days to unplug as much as we were able to, although we actually were able to get some phone / Wifi reception in our room. The Chef tasting Saturday night was quite fun – foods that we normally would not have tried and the wine flight added to the experience. We requested to sit in Cheyenne’s section because she is so fantastic, and were pleased to be able to. Breakfast both days was delicious – have never had such great scones! $10 gratuity added to hotel bill daily to cover housekeeping and breakfast tip is certainly reasonable. All the employees were welcoming and seemed truly happy. No one spoke to us about fine for outside alcohol – not sure if policy has changed? We didn’t find need for any outside alcohol given bar on site, and just made sure to order night cap to bring to room before bar closed. We had a wonderful experience and plan to return. Would be interested in more spa services such as pedicures if available, and think that having a wine tasting class or even a cooking class could add to the experience when outside activities are limited due to weather and hunting season.
Thank you so much for helping me give my daughter the wedding of her dreams! Dating back to the early 1980’s, this has been a very special place for our family. The wedding was exactly as we wanted it to be — vintage, rustic, and very, very elegant. You and your staff were so helpful, yet, at the same time, very professional. It made what I had to do so easy! I will always appreciate your attention to detail as to our needs and wants. You did a beyond fabulous job! Everything (food, accommodations, and ambiance) went far beyond the normal. Our guests were dumbstruck! (and appreciative)

Sue and I had a wonderful time at Gateway Lodge this past week. Your gracious hospitality was enriched by the fabulous food and the incredible scenery of Cook Forest State Park. As this was an important respite for Sue as she cares for her bed-ridden mother of 97 years day and night. It was a most welcome and relaxing time. Thank you so much.
They say good help is hard to find but the reason for that is because all the great help is at Gateway Lodge. Every single employee from the Front Desk to the Spa to the Restaurant were amazingly polite and helpful. The food and spa were exceptional, and the place was beautiful. I can’t wait until my wedding there this summer!
Thank you so much for making our wedding weekend perfect. Your attention to detail, friendliness, and accommodating attitude was top notch. It is clear you have a passion for what you do, and we are so happy we chose the Lodge for our special day/weekend. Billy and I can’t say enough about the atmosphere and staff at the Lodge. We already made reservation to return and have the Lodge photo in our home! We know we will have many more memories there in the future.
— Warmly, The Boyds
